Similar to the one in Paris, the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest, (Bucharest was called in the interwar period “Little Paris”), is dedicated to Romania’s victory in World War 1, at the end of which Romania succeeds in uniting all the territories inhabited by the Romanian people and frees itself from the Austro-Hungarian and Russian rule. The Arch of Triumph was built between 1921 and 1922, with a height of 27 meters and has a parallelepiped-shaped. On the northern side were carved two medallions depicting Manhood (a warrior with a sword) and Faith (a young man with a cross). On the vault stones of the Arch of Triumph are inscribed the names of the localities where the battles of the First World War were fought on Romanian territory (Marasesti, Oituz, Cerna, Neajlov, Jiu Olt, Marasti, etc.), and on the side facades are inscribed the king’s proclamations Ferdinand to the people, when the country went to war and the one from Alba Iulia on the occasion of the coronation. On the west side of the monument it is written: “Glory to those whos have achieved national unity through the brave and their blood sacrifice“. On the southern side it is written: “After centuries of harden Christian suffering and hard struggles for the preservation of the national being, after the sacrifice defense of human civilization, justice is fulfilled for the Romanian people through the sword of King Ferdinand with the help of the whole nation and the thought of Queen Mary“. Presently, military parades are held beneath the arch each 1 December, with the occasion of Romania’s national holiday.

The King Mihai Park, known to the locals Herastrau Park, it is considered the most spectacular and varied park of Bucharest. The area where the park is today, in the 30’s was a swampy area, which for 5 years was arranged, so that in 1935, the park appeared on this land, with an area of about 200 hectares. It is the perfect place for lovers of outdoor sports, long walks on the waterfront (the alley surrounding the lake has a length of approximately 5.92 km), or even water sports. The park also offers the opportunity to ride boats, boats and pedal boats. For those for whom water does not arouse any interest, the areas specially designed for skaters, the bicycle rental center, or the adventure park with various routes are perfect, depending on the resistance. And, let’s not forget the green areas, where we meet an impressive flora: lime trees, maples, poplars, willows, ashes, but also the colorful areas such as the Japanese Garden, Rose Island or the ExpoFlora area, where flower decorations are made every year on an area of almost 15 hectares.

Built in 1960, the place was between 1965 – 1989, the private residence of Romanian Communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. He lived here with his wife Elena Ceausescu and their three children, Nicu, Zoia and Valentin. The palace has over 3.600 square meters and over 80 rooms, of which 60 rooms are visited, including the apartment for the couple Ceausescu and each child, the winter garden, the swimming pool, various salons and the spa which is placed in basement. In December 1989, a revolution took place in Romania, which ended with the overthrow of the communist regime and the capture and execution (shooting) of the Ceausescu’s. An interesting fact is that even today, some of Ceausescu’s servants still work in the palace, mainly those responsible for cleaning.
